Ashwin Warns ICC of Viewer Fatigue Ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has raised concerns that the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup may struggle to attract viewers due to frequent ICC tournaments and unbalanced matchups.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said the excitement around World Cups has faded as global events are now held too often. He warned that one-sided early-round matches could push fans away from watching the tournament.

Ashwin pointed out that fixtures such as India vs USA or India vs Namibia may not generate enough interest. He recalled that earlier World Cups, held every four years, featured high-profile clashes from the start, which helped build anticipation.

He also highlighted the growing gap between top teams and emerging nations, saying it has led to less competitive games in the opening stages. According to him, this imbalance affects the overall appeal of ICC events.
