NADRA Introduces Facial Recognition for Citizens Facing Fingerprint Issues
Pakistan’s NADRA is rolling out a facial recognition-based biometric verification system to help citizens whose fingerprints have faded due to age or medical conditions. This initiative aims to simplify access to banks, SIM services, housing transactions, and other services requiring biometric verification.
Under the new system, facial photographs and iris scans are now legally recognised as valid biometric identifiers, alongside fingerprints. Citizens can obtain verification certificates at NADRA Registration Centres or via the Pak ID mobile app for services like vehicle transfers and passport applications.

Starting 20 January 2026, those unable to verify via fingerprints can visit any NADRA centre for a fresh photograph. NADRA will issue a certificate containing the citizen’s photo, CNIC details, a QR code, and a tracking ID, valid for seven days. This certificate can be submitted to the institution requiring biometric verification.
The system will gradually expand, allowing verification directly at institutions and via e-Sahulat franchises once the Digital ID is fully launched. NADRA urges all public and private institutions to upgrade their systems to support this facility, ensuring smooth and secure citizen verification nationwide.
This initiative reflects NADRA’s commitment to technological innovation and making essential services more accessible and secure for all citizens.
