Karachi Moves to Control Heavy Traffic with Dedicated Lane and Speed Cap
Karachi authorities have announced new traffic measures for heavy vehicles after a recent rise in serious road accidents across the city. The decision aims to improve road safety and reduce congestion on key routes.
A separate lane for heavy traffic will be introduced, where trucks and other large vehicles must strictly follow a 30 km/h speed limit. Officials said heavy vehicles will not be allowed to leave the designated lane once it becomes operational.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi, attended by senior police officials, transport authorities, and representatives of goods transporters. Several issues, including parking shortages, HTV licensing, vehicle registration, and insurance coverage, were also discussed.
Authorities confirmed that the HTV lane will run from Mai Kolachi to Qayyumabad Bridge, with lane markings to begin immediately. Once completed, heavy vehicles will be restricted to this route.
Officials also reviewed plans to strengthen vehicle fitness checks and improve insurance systems to enhance passenger and public safety across Karachi.
