WAPDA Clarifies 2026 Rules on Multiple Electricity Meters in One House

With electricity costs rising and joint family living common in Pakistan, many households are asking whether more than one electricity meter can be installed in a single house under WAPDA Rules 2026. The answer is yes, but only under clearly defined conditions.

According to updated guidelines issued in coordination with WAPDA, NEPRA, and power distribution companies, multiple meters are allowed if each portion of the house qualifies as an independent residential unit. Authorities have clarified that there is no blanket ban on additional meters, countering rumors circulating on social media.

Each portion must have a separate entrance, independent wiring, and its own kitchen. The policy applies to both homeowners and tenants, provided legal requirements are met and a site inspection is approved by the relevant DISCO.

Officials stressed that the rule is based on one meter per household unit, not per family member, and warned against misuse of subsidized tariff slabs. Applications that fail to meet structural or documentation requirements may be rejected.

The clarification is expected to ease confusion for joint families, landlords, and tenants, while helping the government ensure transparent billing and prevent electricity subsidy abuse in 2026.
