Solar Energy Booms in Pakistan Despite Monthly Dip in Net Metering

Pakistan continues to see strong growth in solar energy adoption, even though net metering units fell slightly in November 2025. Year-on-year, the share of net metering in total power generation increased by 127 basis points, showing that more consumers are relying on solar solutions and reducing dependence on the national grid.

According to Arif Habib Limited (AHL), overall power generation remained largely stable, rising just 0.2 percent YoY in November, excluding K-Electric consumers. Despite the month-on-month drop of 10.5 percent in net metering units, the trend reflects continued investment in rooftop solar systems and renewable energy projects across Pakistan.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) forecasts that overall power demand will grow by 1.0 percent YoY in 2026, further emphasizing the need for alternative energy sources like solar. Analysts say this demonstrates that Pakistani households and businesses are increasingly turning to solar energy for cost savings and reliability.

The shift highlights Pakistan’s gradual transition toward renewable energy, even amid short-term fluctuations, and points to a bright future for solar adoption in the country.
