Textbooks Could Become Heavily Expensive Soon, Industry Warns
Textbook prices in Pakistan may see a sharp increase in the near future due to a steep rise in NOC and license renewal fees. Publishers have expressed serious concerns, warning that keeping prices unchanged may no longer be possible.
Industry insiders estimate that textbook costs could surge by 40 to 50 percent, especially for books used in private schools, if the new fees remain in effect. The NOC license fee has jumped from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 150,000, while the renewal fee has increased from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 75,000, creating a heavy financial burden for publishers.

Publishers said the extra costs would inevitably be passed on to consumers, putting students and parents under additional pressure. They urged authorities to reconsider the decision, highlighting that higher book prices could make education less affordable and further strain household budgets.
The rise in regulatory charges comes at a time when families are already managing other educational expenses, and the industry warns that without intervention, the impact on access to learning resources could be significant.
Students, parents, and educators are now watching closely, hoping for measures that could prevent a steep jump in the cost of textbooks in the coming months.
