Basant Revival Moves Forward as Lahore Starts Groundwork for 2026 Festival
The Lahore administration has officially begun preparations for Basant 2026, signaling a renewed push to revive the historic festival under strict safety controls. Initial groundwork is set to start this week as authorities move toward a regulated and closely monitored celebration.
Officials said online registration for kite and string manufacturers and sellers will open shortly. Only individuals who complete the registration process will be allowed to manufacture or sell kites, making unregistered activity illegal.

To ensure better oversight, the sale of kites and string will be permitted only at designated stalls in the Walled City. Manufacturing permits will also be issued through an online portal, allowing authorities to track production and enforce compliance more effectively.
This year, the administration has fixed clear limits on production. Approved manufacturers will be allowed to produce one-and-a-half tawa gadda and four-and-a-half gath kites, a move aimed at reducing risks linked to excessive kite flying.
While production can take place anywhere in Lahore, manufacturers must inform authorities in advance about their production locations for inspection purposes. Officials stressed that all participants must strictly follow approved SOPs, ensuring the festival remains safe, organised, and free from dangerous practices.
