NEPRA Slashes Electricity Rates: Consumers to Pay Less from January
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a 93-paisa per unit reduction in electricity prices, offering relief to consumers across Pakistan starting January 2026. The cut comes after adjustments in fuel costs for November.
According to NEPRA, the reduction will appear in the January electricity bills for almost all consumer categories, except lifeline consumers, who are not eligible for this adjustment. The move follows a request by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to pass on a Rs. 0.72 per unit refund, amounting to over Rs. 5.6 billion in savings nationwide.

Fuel price adjustments are reviewed monthly to reflect changes in global fuel prices and generation costs, with the updated rates applied in the next billing cycle.
Alongside the reduction, NEPRA set the average base tariff for 2026 at Rs33.38 per unit, slightly lower than the previous six-month rate of Rs34 per unit. The government also shifted tariff calculation from the fiscal year to the calendar year, with the rebased rates effective from January 1, 2026.
NEPRA noted that this adjustment balances consumer relief while ensuring full cost recovery for distribution companies, meeting operational costs and electricity procurement needs for the upcoming year.
This reduction is expected to bring noticeable savings on household electricity bills, providing welcome relief after years of consecutive hikes.
