Pakistan-Born Heart Surgeon Honored with OBE in UK
Professor Syed Saeed Ashraf, a cardiothoracic surgeon of Pakistani origin, has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the United Kingdom’s New Year Honours List. The recognition celebrates his outstanding contributions to heart surgery, medical education, and humanitarian service.

Prof Ashraf serves as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, Wales. He has been praised for combining clinical expertise with academic work, while also training surgeons from around the world to advance cardiac care.
Alongside his work in the UK, Prof Ashraf frequently travels to Pakistan during personal leave, performing complex heart surgeries at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Karachi. His voluntary efforts primarily focus on children with rheumatic heart disease and Afghan refugees, providing free life-saving treatment.
