Pakistan Shivers as Powerful Cold Wave Brings Snow, Fog, and Freezing Winds Nationwide

A severe cold wave has tightened its grip across Pakistan, with heavy snowfall in northern regions and icy winds sweeping through the plains, making daily life increasingly difficult. Weather conditions have worsened in mountainous areas, where snow has disrupted road links and intensified the cold.

Temperatures have dropped sharply, with Hunza recording −21°C, Astore −19°C, Chilas −11°C, and Kalat −8°C. Snowfall in areas around Babusar Top and Nanga Parbat has further strained travel and local movement, according to weather officials.

In Karachi, residents experienced a noticeable chill as nighttime temperatures fell to 8°C, accompanied by cold north-easterly winds. The Pakistan Meteorological Department said the cold spell in the city is expected to continue for the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, dense fog has blanketed large parts of Punjab, forcing the closure of several motorway sections, including stretches of M-2, M-3, M-4, and M-5, due to dangerously low visibility. Foggy conditions were also reported in Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and nearby districts.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, follow safety guidelines, and remain cautious as cold and foggy conditions persist across the country.
