Pakistanis in Germany Can Now Hold Dual Citizenship After Official Agreement
A major relief has been announced for Pakistanis living in Germany, as both countries have formally finalized a dual nationality arrangement. The new policy allows Pakistani nationals to hold citizenship of both Pakistan and Germany simultaneously, ending years of uncertainty for the diaspora.
The Embassy of Pakistan in Berlin confirmed that all legal and procedural requirements have been completed. Under this arrangement, Pakistanis applying for German nationality no longer need to renounce their Pakistani citizenship, a rule that had previously discouraged many from applying.

The change benefits thousands of Pakistan-origin residents in Germany, enabling them to maintain property, inheritance rights, and family connections in Pakistan while fully integrating into German society. The embassy also mentioned that details for those who previously gave up Pakistani citizenship to acquire German nationality will be shared soon, offering a pathway to reclaim their original citizenship.
Officials stressed that applicants should follow official embassy guidelines and avoid unofficial procedures. The announcement reflects Pakistan’s commitment to supporting its overseas community and aligns with global practices recognizing the realities of migration.
