Punjab Introduces Hefty Traffic Fines and Digital E-Challan System for 2026

Punjab has rolled out new traffic fines for 2026, bringing stricter penalties, higher challans, and a fully digital monitoring system to improve road safety. The government aims to reduce accidents, enforce discipline, and modernize traffic management across the province.

Under the new rules, fines for common violations have increased sharply. Speeding now carries a penalty of PKR 2,000–5,000, running a red light costs PKR 5,000, and not wearing a helmet or seatbelt results in fines of PKR 2,000–3,000. Serious offenses like wrong-way driving or reckless driving can lead to fines of PKR 10,000 and possible license suspension.

The updated system emphasizes responsible driving. Cameras and e-challans now track violations, sending instant SMS notifications to vehicle owners. Repeat offenders face stricter consequences, including vehicle impoundment. Drivers must carry valid licenses, follow lane discipline, and respect traffic signals.

Authorities stress that these changes apply across all cities and highways in Punjab. The digital e-challan system is designed to eliminate bribery, speed up enforcement, and keep roads safer.

For every driver, the message is clear: follow the rules or pay the price. Punjab’s 2026 traffic laws mark a new era of strict, technology-driven enforcement aimed at saving lives and improving road behavior.
